About Judy Silvan

Helping people uncover their tenderness and core strength is the healing hallmark of my work. I received my MSW from Smith College, and have felt a passion to practice and teach experiential methods of psychotherapy and counseling ever since. I was awarded Supervisor Certification from the AEDP Institute in NYC, the rubric within which lies all of my ways of connecting with people: moment-by-moment, and in a gently deepening way. Through the privilege of working as a therapist, I have a sense of the intricacies and complexities barely below the surface covered by sand--and those hard-core struggles buried in deep, rich soil.

As a writer and political activist, I play with language, play outdoors and find that being physically active is important…I read historical and contemporary works which reflect my anti-racism and feminism values, and strive to be well-versed in oppression of all kinds. My intention is to “get” as much as possible how hurtful it feels to be treated poorly due to race— especially from my white perspective— and to help people who have been racially traumatized.

My personal perspective has taught me about emotional injuries due to sexuality, gender, family-composition, body type (et al) as someone who has been around many challenges. In my non-professional life my joy typically involves family, friendships, children, parenting, travel, pets, making and viewing art.

Emerging ways of undoing oppression in racism, gender, family composition, neuro-diversity, body type, and other under-celebrated human contingencies build Judy Silvan’s activist value base.
